Home Care / Domiciliary Services
These services provide essential care and support for people who live in their own homes.
About support at home
As our population ages, support at home is becoming essential to people across Wales. Helping people stay connected with their communities, family and friends is one of the most important aspects of this service.
Home care is planned care and delivered to meet individual need. It’s suitable for all sorts of people, such as:
- older people
- people with severe illnesses
- people recovering from surgery
- people with disabilities.
By building around people’s needs and routines it helps them remain in their home in a safe and supported way.
Some roles can be viewed as an alternative to that of care homes, and though they are similar in how they support people to live their life in the way they want, the day-to-night care model provided by care homes may be more suitable. You can find out more about care homes at our dedicated information page.
There is a breadth of roles available within this service which makes
it suitable for those looking to gain experience, as well as people who
already have experience and qualifications.
Support at home regulation
Some service providers such as home care workers (also known as domiciliary care) are regulated in Wales by Care Inspectorate Wales.
All managers and workers who provide home care services are registered with Social Care Wales.
You can apply to register or search
the register online at the Social Care Wales website.
Featured roles you can do in home care services
As a Home care co-ordinator, you’ll co-ordinate the work of a team of Home Care Workers and Home Care Senior Care Workers.
As a Home Care Manager, you’ll set the operational direction and organise the effective running of the service. You’ll ensure that staff provide the best possible care and support.
As a Reablement Worker, you’ll provide critical short-term support and/or therapy to people in their own home. This will aim to help them relearn skills to keep them safe and find their independence.
