WeCare Wales at Skills Cymru

WeCare Wales was proud to attend Skills Cymru, Wales’ largest careers and skills event held on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 November at the Utilita arena, Cardiff. The event brought together national and local employers, universities, colleges, and trainings providers to inspire young people aged 14-24, as well as their parents, carers, and teachers.

Around 780 students visited our stand, where they explored a variety of social care and early year’s roles through interactive activities and resources.

What was on offer?

Students didn’t just learn about care – they experienced it! Highlights included:

  • Virtual reality care headset – the star attraction, offering an immersive glimpse into real care environments and job roles. Developed in collaboration with WeCare Wales, Care Connectors, and Virtus Tech, this pilot project gave learners a realistic “virtual experience”. Over two days, 85 young people tested the VR headset, and had an incredible response.
  • Dementia interpreter – guessing the purpose of social aid objects
  • The HUG’s – a hands-on empathy experience
  • PetBots – Robotic companions
  • Mood Board Station – “What does care mean to you?”

Attendees also explored our free resources for teachers, registered for our post 16 social care programme, and discovered our young person’s introduction to childcare, covering early years, play and childcare.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited the WeCare Wales stand. We were inspired by the curiosity and enthusiasm of learners and teachers, and families across Wales.
