Free online training for people aged 16 years and over living in Wales and interested in working in social care.

About the training
Introduction to social care gives an overview of working in social care, including:
- social care roles
- qualities and values
- equality, diversity and equity
- promoting independence
- communication
- duty of care
- Code of Professional Practice
- consent and confidentiality
- person-centred approach
- resilience and wellbeing
- safeguarding
When you start working in the sector, you will also receive extra support and training from your employer.
Right to work
Social Care Wales’ Introduction to Social Care Programme is only open to individuals lawfully resident in Wales at the time of registration for it. If you are not a British citizen, you can only register for the programme if you are both resident in Wales and in possession of a visa granting you the right to work in the UK. When registering for the programme, candidates are required to self-certify that, if they are not a British citizen, they have received and continue to hold a visa to work in the UK and that they are able to prove their lawful and valid immigration permission.

Getting into work
This training is not an accredited qualification in health and social care. For more information on sponsorships and working rights please visit www.gov.uk
To work within social care, you will need to have some checks to make sure you are suitable to work in the sector. This will include something called a Disclosure and Barring System (DBS) check to make sure you can work in social care.
Certain roles also require Social Care Wales registration.
