Q&A with Abbi-Lee

How did you get into the sector?

Prior to working in care, I was a hairdresser, so I had no qualifications to work in the sector. But it was important for me to have a progression route, and I’ve been able to have a lot of training whilst on the job.

What is something people don’t know about your job?

People think social care is just personal care, but every day is different. You’re supporting people who want to gain independence and go back out into the community, such as taking them to do a food shop or to the cinema.

What qualities do you need to work in social care?

You need to be caring, empathetic and driven, and someone who wants to make a change to people’s lives.
