Q&A with Darren

Why did you choose to work with children?

It was always my intention to work in adult services, but I did a placement in children’s services and found that I absolutely loved working with children and their families and that’s why I’ve never left.

What is the most challenging aspect of your role?

Decision making at my level is difficult as it dictates the direction of a young person’s life. But the reward comes from seeing families succeed and children developing in safe homes with safe care arrangements.

What advice would you give to anyone considering social care?

Give it a try. If your values are seeing people being treated equally, people being supported and empowered to achieve better things to improve their lives then social care could be for you.
