My role
I am a senior care and support worker in reablement and community services. I assess people after they leave the hospital and deploy staff to provide short-term reablement interventions. I regularly review their progress to ensure they receive the right support, refer them to other services or long-term care if needed, and manage a team of 14 staff. I collaborate daily with occupational therapists, GPs, nurses, and social workers, learning a lot from these interactions.
What I love about what I do
I love seeing the confidence of those we support grow as they overcome barriers they faced when they first joined our service. Every day is different, bringing new challenges and opportunities to learn. I learn something new every day and I appreciate the continuous learning and training opportunities that help me excel in my career.
What I most proud of in my job
I've completed QCF Levels 2 and 3, and even earned a degree while working and raising my family. This was possible thanks to my supportive managers and colleagues, which helped me grow in confidence and ability.
I'm proud to be part of a service that strives for excellence and continuous development. It's an honour to work in this sector.
The most rewarding part of my job
Helping people stay safely in their own homes for as long as possible, while gaining independence with support from the reablement team and other necessary teams.
Working with various teams and services helps achieve the best outcomes for citizens. Conversations with social workers, occupational therapists, and other health professionals have taught me many valuable lessons that benefit my job.
Knowing that our support positively impacts individuals' lives is incredibly rewarding.
The moment I’ll always remember
I have many positive memories from my 14 years in care, making it hard to choose just one. I've supported many people, and most have touched my heart, teaching me different perspectives and ways of working that I've carried throughout my career.
