Celebrating Carers Week with learners across Wales

In June, we proudly hosted a bilingual Learners Week to mark Carers Week, delivered in partnership with our Welsh Engagement Lead Officer at Social Care Wales and supported by the E-sgol digital platform.
Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of carers, highlighting and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. This year the theme was 'Caring about equality'. Find out more on Carer Week's website.
Learners Week reached primary schools across Wales and was tailored for pupils in years five and six.
Over the course of the week, an impressive 2,850 students participated in our online sessions, which aimed to raise awareness of the vital role of social care in our communities.
Through engaging and age-appropriate content, learners gained a deeper understanding of what care means, from supporting older people and individuals with disabilities to helping those with mental health needs. The sessions helped students appreciate the everyday impact of carers and the value of kindness, empathy, and community support. Many pupils were surprised at how many people in their own lives are carers, and how important those roles are.
Feedback from schools and organisers has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly regarding the assemblies delivered by Introduction to social care team. Teachers noted that the sessions sparked meaningful conversations in classrooms and helped pupils see care as a respected and essential part of society.
We’re delighted this collaboration will continue next year, building on the strong foundations of this successful event — and continuing to inspire the next generation to value and understand the importance of care.
