National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week runs between 10 - 16 February 2025 and celebrates and brings together businesses and apprenticeships across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

As National Apprenticeship Week approaches, WeCare Wales are celebrating the invaluable contributions apprenticeships make to the social care and childcare sector in Wales.

This week is a reminder of the benefits apprenticeships bring to both individuals and employers, fostering growth, development, and excellence within the sector.

Why you should consider an apprenticeship

Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience and valuable qualifications.

Apprenticeship qualifications are a mix of on the job learning and experience, and communication and numeracy skills.

An apprenticeship typically takes between 18 months to two years to complete.

Apprenticeships are suitable for all ages. If you are aged 16 or over and want to work in social care or early years and childcare, an apprenticeship could be a good place to start.

Why employers should consider offering apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a great investment in the future of your organisation.

Here are a few reasons why offering apprenticeships can be a game-changer for employers:

  • Attract enthusiastic young people and career changers

Apprenticeships draw in motivated young people and career changers who bring fresh perspectives and energy

  • Reduce staff turnover and improve retention

Investing in training and development improves retention and reduces the costs associated with high staff turnover

  • Help balance ageing workplaces

Apprenticeships help in creating a balanced, multi-generational workforce

  • Offer more opportunities in your company

Provide diverse roles and growth opportunities within your company, making it an attractive place to work

...and many more.
