Job description
A Special Guardianship Order (SGO) provides a legally secure placement for a child until they reach the age of eighteen years. It can be a positive alternative to adoption because it retains the child's sense of identity and belonging. The Special Guardians have Parental Responsibility to care for the child and make all the decisions about their upbringing. Many of these children have been placed with family members or connected persons as a result of court proceedings instigated by the Local Authority. Many of the children are older and will have experienced several Adverse Childhood Experiences whilst in the care of their parents/carers.You will offer support, advice and guidance to Special Guardians within and outside of the Local Authority and will contribute to their ongoing training to enable them to effectively care for vulnerable children and young people in line with Departmental Policies and the national and regional guidance for SGO.
