Social Worker (Assessment Team) Job description About the role:
The main role of the Duty and Assessment Social worker is to undertake Care and Well-being assessments and Section 47 Child protection investigations. The role requires you to be part of a duty rota where you are generally on duty for 2 days per week (north). The team is very supportive and work very reflectively and openly together. Everyone values formal and informal supervision on cases where ideas and knowledge can be shared. We progress cases through to the first care and support meeting, Initial child protection conference, initial looked after review or the initial hearing.
The Team generally work from two bases - Newtown or Welshpool. The Newtown office is often the most busy and the team value office working whilst having the flexibility of working from home.
About you:
Any SW applying for a post in the assessment team will need the skill to support families in finding solutions to any presenting need or risk towards a child. Being able to facilitate family network meetings and use strength-based questions to elicit ways to manage or reduce risks. Showing commitment and flexibility to case work is very important when working in a duty and assessment team and the applicant will need skills is being able to prioritise tasks and meet timeframes for assessments.
What you will do:
The main role of the Duty and Assessment Social worker is to undertake Care and Well-being assessments and Section 47 Child protection investigations. You will work closely with partner agencies where good relationships have already been developed and the teams works very well with colleagues in Police, health and education. The team use Safety Planning with families who are empowered to seek solutions to situations where a child could be deemed in need or at risk. Your role will involve facilitating family network meetings to support families to create safety around their children. Our ethos is to empower families and, where needed, seek the resources and services to meet their child's needs.
