You should be flexible to fit in around the needs of the person receiving support and help them to make their own decisions around their care they receive and encourage them to maintain their independence.

It may be useful if you had a driving licence and access to a car to support people to enjoy the activities of their choice; however, this shouldn't stop you from applying as some people do not require this.

About the role

Your hours will be agreed between yourself and your employer (usually the person you support), who may require you to work flexible shifts, which may include some weekends and bank holidays. Their precise requirements will be discussed at interview. However, some common tasks may include:

• helping with dressing and personal hygiene

• household chores such as washing, ironing, cooking, and cleaning

• shopping

• transport and attending day activities

• help with medical appointments and medication

The rewards

The rate of pay will be negotiated between you and your employer.
