Personal attributes Essential To be of a patient and considerate temperament and have an understanding of the problems and needs of service users.
Desirable -
Qualifications and relevant training Essential Clean Driving licence Category B(D1 if passed driving test after 1/1/97). To be over 20 years of age.
Desirable First Aid Certificate
Relevant experience Essential -
Desirable Experience of similar work or driving vehicles of mini bus size or larger.

Language requirements Listening and Speaking - Intermediate Able to maintain a fluent conversation on a number of various everyday subjects, and discuss cases involving the field of work.Able to follow a discussion in Welsh, in Clear Welsh, on familiar matters relating to the post. Able to contribute to the conversation and answer questions.
Reading and Understanding - Intermediate Understand everyday correspondence on familiar issues at work.Understand longer reports in Clear Welsh and be able to pick up the main points. (help may be required with the vocabulary).
Writing - Intermediate Able to write letters for a specific purpose, e-mails and short reports in Welsh and English, using vocabulary and simple phrases that are familiar to the field of work. (They will need to be checked before being sent out).
Job Description
Purpose of the post • Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
• To ensure that service users are transported safely and comfortably.
• To ensure that the vehicle is maintained and kept clean and safe
• To ensure the physical and emotional well-being of service users
Main duties • To ensure that the vehicle is roadworthy and conforms with all Health and Safety regulations and legal requirements before taking it onto the road.
• To ensure that the dignity and independence of service users is respected through good care practices. To be aware of the need to respect the rights of the individual at all times.
• To be part of the process of planning and reviewing individual progammes for service users.
• To maintain and respect confidentiality with all service users and proceedings in the department.
• To ensure that the vehicle is clean and safe and has all the relevant and appropriate documents at the beginning of each day. To report any defects to the Line Manager.
• To collect and transport service users between their homes and the Day Centres.
• To assist service users at the beginning and end of their journey, including loading and unloading wheelchairs, aids, lifting service users etc.
• To be responsible for the well-being of service users at all times and for developing a professional care relationship to promote their well-being, independence and comfort.
• To act as first point of contact between service users and the relevant services (e.g. Accountable Manager, Social Workers, Parents) and to report on their requirements and condition
• To undertake all relevant training in connection with the vehicle and the safe transportation of service users
• To undertake all relevant training in connection with Health & Safety and to undertake first aid assistant duties for service users
• To drive any departmental vehicle as required, including making checks on vehicles generally, general maintenance and cleaning.
• When not undertaking transporting work, duties will include taking responsibility for general duties in the Day Centre as considered appropriate by the supervisor, such as assisting service users during the work period in the establishment and during trips or when on errands.
• This list of tasks should not be considered exhaustive since tasks can vary according to the varying needs of service users.
• Responsibility for self-development.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council's Health and Safety Policy.
• Operate within the Council's policies in relation to equal opportunities and equality.
• Responsible for managing information in accordance with the Council's information management guidelines. Ensure that personal information is treated in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
• Commitment to reducing the Council's carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council's Carbon Footprint.
• Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
