Caretaker / Handyperson Torfaen Council
Location: Torfaen
Full Time

Torfaen Social Care and Housing Service is seeking to recruit a full time Caretaker/Handy Person at TY GLAS Y DORLAN.

Job share and secondment applications are welcome.

There is an expectation from the Welsh Government that public services will work in a more collaborative way, identifying and exploiting opportunities to work together with communities and stakeholders to improve outcomes for the people of Wales. (SSWB Wales Act and Wellbeing of future Generations Act).

Ty Glas Y Dorlan is a wellbeing hub that will be at the centre of our transformation of our respite and Reablement/Enablement offer. It moves us away from a bed based care model to a unique community hub that will provide a mix of short stay accommodation with support where people will have their own front door for the duration of their stay and access to a person centred recovery and reablement plan of intervention which can flex up and down in an environment that mirrors their own home. It can provide step up from the community to avoid hospital admission and step down from hospital to provide a safe space to recover, build confidence and maintain and maximise independence before returning to your own home. It will offer respite care to give carers a break in an environment that is more like a holiday than has previously been the case. Care and support will be onsite 24/7 and meaningful activities to support social inclusion and prevent isolation and loneliness will be available. It is age inclusive and will be for all adults.
There will be communal areas and it is envisaged spaces for the community to access so it becomes a focal point and a community asset. A programme of sessional day opportunities and outreach support will be coordinated from the hub including information advice and assistance and intergenerational projects. Occupational therapy, opportunities to try equipment options, and opportunities for integration with primary care and community nursing are all possible.
This project is both innovative and ambitious and has the potential to make a real difference to people in Torfaen.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, solutions focused, person with a can do attitude, who is able to put the guest’s strengths, voice, choice and control at the centre of any interventions, experiences and opportunities in the hub person.
