Being a Residential Child Care Manager
You will be responsible for the care provided to children within a home or multiple homes. You will lead your teams to provide child-centred, nurturing and therapeutic care, meeting the individual needs of each child. You will listen to the children and young people in your care to ensure that the care they receive supports them to achieve what matters to them. You will guide and support your team and the children in your care through tough times and difficult situations, leading with compassion and consistency. You’ll be responsible for documentation and meeting regulatory requirements.
You’ll provide leadership, guidance and support to staff ensure that staff adhere to company policies, legislations, and regulations, and that all care plans and standards are met. You’ll also carry out supervisions and attend meetings with education, police social workers and other agencies.
About the workplace
Residential children’s homes are also known as children’s homes. They’re a home where children and young people can live if they cannot be at home with their own families.
Getting started as a Residential Child Care Manager
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Leadership and management skills
- Skills and experience in therapeutic approaches
- Good communication, including verbal and listening skills
- Motivation and determination
- To be a team player
- Attention to detail, ensuring correct information is recorded in all documentation
- A caring, supportive and patient nature
- Confidence around children, young people and adults
- Ability to give direction and supervision to other members of the team.
