What is social care?
Social care is about working with people, building positive relationships and supporting them to stay safe, live well and achieve what matters most to them. It supports people to live as independently as possible and stay connected to the people, places and communities that are important to them.
People might need support for many different reasons, including age, disability, illness, caring responsibilities, isolation or other life circumstances. Social care can include practical help, emotional support, advocacy and assistance with everyday living.

The Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 is the law that supports social care in Wales. It focuses on what matters to each person. This means people should be listened to, have their rights respected, and be able to make choices about their own care and support. The Act also recognises the importance of families, friends, carers and communities in helping people to live the life they want.
