People communicate in different ways. As a social care worker, it's important to recognise and respond to each person's individual communication needs.

In Wales, social care is built around what matters to people. Good communication helps workers understand a person's wishes, strengths, needs and outcomes, so the person being supported can be fully involved in decisions about their care and support.

Effective communication is at the heart of person-centred care. It helps people feel respected, valued and listened to, while supporting positive relationships based on trust and understanding.

By communicating in a way that works for each individual, social care workers can give the people they support a voice, choice and more control over their lives.
