1
00:00:00 --> 00:00:04
Lowri - Tutor - Gower College:
The Vocational Social Services Practitioner qualification
2
00:00:04 --> 00:00:06
is a two year qualification
3
00:00:06 --> 00:00:11
targeted towards individuals that are working in social services.
4
00:00:11 --> 00:00:15
The first year is delivered all teaching and learning,
5
00:00:15 --> 00:00:16
which it can be face to face
6
00:00:16 --> 00:00:19
or it can be remote depending on the location of the learners.
7
00:00:19 --> 00:00:21
And then the second year then,
8
00:00:21 --> 00:00:24
the practice educator takes over
9
00:00:24 --> 00:00:26
and carries out the assessments with the learners then.
10
00:00:26 --> 00:00:28
There are individuals out there
11
00:00:28 --> 00:00:31
that are currently practising that do these jobs,
12
00:00:31 --> 00:00:33
and what the qualification does
13
00:00:33 --> 00:00:36
is give them recognition for what they're doing,
14
00:00:36 --> 00:00:39
but also supports their knowledge and understanding
15
00:00:39 --> 00:00:42
to be up at that level that it should be
16
00:00:42 --> 00:00:44
in line with the Social Services and Well-being Act.
17
00:00:44 --> 00:00:48
Jemma - Senior Lead Worker - Swansea Council:
So doing the qualification online, was a challenge for me.
18
00:00:48 --> 00:00:51
I've never actually learnt in an online setting.
19
00:00:51 --> 00:00:55
I've always been classroom based or lecture room based.
20
00:00:55 --> 00:00:57
So whilst it did pose a challenge for me,
21
00:00:57 --> 00:01:00
it also supported my type of directive learning.
22
00:01:00 --> 00:01:04
All the students that were online were from different demographic areas
23
00:01:04 --> 00:01:07
meant that there was a wealth of knowledge
24
00:01:07 --> 00:01:09
in the room, so to speak.
25
00:01:10 --> 00:01:12
Naomi - Care Co-ordinator Joint Discharge Team- Pembrokeshire CC:
So I chose to do the SSP qualification
26
00:01:12 --> 00:01:14
because I knew that the qualification
27
00:01:14 --> 00:01:17
would give me the skills and knowledge
28
00:01:17 --> 00:01:20
to be able to provide the best possible service
29
00:01:20 --> 00:01:22
to the communities that I was working in.
30
00:01:22 --> 00:01:27
So my advice to anyone wanting to start a social care apprenticeship
31
00:01:27 --> 00:01:29
would be that it's never too late.
32
00:01:29 --> 00:01:33
When I started my job at 19 in the police force,
33
00:01:33 --> 00:01:35
I thought that was me set.
34
00:01:35 --> 00:01:37
I thought that was my career
35
00:01:37 --> 00:01:39
and I would never go back to college or school.
36
00:01:39 --> 00:01:42
And for me, school was not an environment that I loved,
37
00:01:42 --> 00:01:43
I didn't thrive there.
38
00:01:43 --> 00:01:46
I didn't go to university
39
00:01:46 --> 00:01:50
and I was really apprehensive about starting a new qualification.
40
00:01:50 --> 00:01:52
But it's been amazing.
41
00:01:52 --> 00:01:57
Lowri has been so supportive and I'm really glad I started it,
42
00:01:57 --> 00:02:00
and I'm really excited to see what the future holds now.
