Karen began her social care journey at 18 and worked in a learning disability school. After years of progression, she has won Wales Nurse of the Year and has worked in social care settings as a Nurse all her career.

What is the most important thing you need to work in social care?

Kindness. You need to be kind.

What is one of your favourite parts of the job?

You work with a team of people who love what they are doing.

Have you always wanted to work in care?

I really wanted to be an Astronaut, but there weren’t too many openings for an 18-year-old with not many qualifications.
