About volunteers week

Volunteers’ Week is a UK-wide celebration held annually from the first Monday in June, recognising the incredible contributions of volunteers across the country. Running from Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th June.

Launched in 1984, this initiative has been running for over 40 years, providing organisations and communities a platform to thank current and past volunteers for their invaluable efforts.

This campaign shines a light on the people who give their time, energy, and compassion to support others and highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work across Wales and the rest of the UK.

The value of volunteering in care

To mark this special week, we’ve been visiting care organisations across Wales to find out more about how they support the vital role volunteers play in their care settings, showcasing their impact on both the organisation and wider community.

Through a series of powerful case study videos, volunteers share how their roles have helped them grow in confidence, build lasting friendships, and feel part of a supportive, diverse community.

Their stories highlight just how vital volunteering is—not only to the individuals and families they support, but also to the strength of the care sector as a whole.

As one volunteer put it:

“Without us, there wouldn’t be affordable childcare for a lot of parents.”

Fel y dywedodd un gwirfoddolwr:

Hebddom ni, ni fyddai gofal plant fforddiadwy ar gael i lawer o rieni.”
