WeCare Wales at the Garreg Las National Eisteddfod
On Tuesday, 4 August, WeCare Wales travelled to Pembrokeshire to take part in the Garreg Las National Eisteddfod.
The Caring in Welsh award
At midday, Social Care Wales announced the winner of the Caring in Welsh award in a ceremony on the maes.
The Caring in Welsh award is an annual award that recognises, celebrates and shares the work of those who’ve made a real difference to people’s lives by providing care and support through the medium of Welsh.
During the ceremony, our WeCare Wales Ambassador, Susan James, talked about her experience working in childcare, play and early years and the importance of the Welsh language in care.
Susan works as a Senior Childcare Development Officer in Family Information Services Carmarthenshire. Susan provides advice, leadership and practical support to childcare settings, helping to promote continuous improvement.
Susan says, not only does providing Welsh laguage childcare support children’s linguistic, social and emotional development, but:
‘Access to Welsh medium childcare supports the wider aim of promoting and safeguarding the Welsh language for future generations, while ensuring at the same time that Welsh speakers have equal access to high-quality services in their language of choice.’
More Than Just Words
Over at the More Than Just Words stand, WeCare Wales promoted and celebrated the importance of the Welsh language in social care alongside Care Inspectorate Wales, Hywel Dda Health Board and Social Care Wales.
More Than Just Words is Welsh Government’s plan to embed the Welsh language in health and social care so people can access the care that they deserve and require.
We discussed the importance of the Welsh language in social care and encouraged people to get involved by completing our survey. Survey responses will help shape our future work.
