Micro Care Monmouthshire

Monmouthshire Council, in partnership with the Gwent Regional Partnership Team, have developed a supplementary way of delivering care and support in the community, by supporting people to become self-employed care workers.

Recruiting home care workers in rural areas like Monmouthshire has historically proven a challenge. The pilot hopes to enable additional care capacity across the region, providing greater choice and continuity of care to its residents.

A micro carer can help with a variety of different care and support tasks, which could include (but is not limited to) domiciliary care (also known as home care), respite for carers, leisure and wellbeing activities, domestic tasks, pet care, companionship, gardening, and shopping.

With support from Business Wales, all micro carers receive ongoing advice and guidance from the micro care team, supporting them to meet the standards required to be entered onto Monmouthshire’s Micro Care Directory. Once on the directory, micro carers are linked with local people looking for care services.

Since April 2022, the micro care team have supported nine people like Liza to become self-employed carers and entered onto Monmouthshire micro care directory. The micro care team are seeking anyone thinking about becoming a micro carer to get in contact.

If you’d like to find out more about becoming a micro carer, you can contact the micro care team on microcarer@monmouthshire.gov.uk, 07977 094126.
