About the role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Supervising Social Worker in Powys council. Based in the Connected Carers Team, the position would be part of a well-established, supportive, stable staff team. The Connected Carer's Team undertakes the assessment and support of friends and family that foster. Supervising social workers have manageable caseloads, receive a robust induction, have regular reflective supervision as well as additional support and mentoring when required. The connected carers team works closely with other teams within the fostering service, and there may be flexibility in completing assessment work within the general fostering and special guardianship team.
About you: - Post qualifying experience in a fostering related social worker role or post qualifying experience in other childcare setting such as a looked after children's team.
- An ability to demonstrate that you can complete assessments in a timely manner.
- You should have a knowledge and understanding of the needs and experiences of children who are unable to live with their parents as well as skills and knowledge in complex family dynamics and support.
- The ability to support our foster carers and their families to achieve the best outcomes for the children in their care.
- Up to date knowledge of relevant legislation including the Social Services and Well-being Act and Local Authority Fostering Regulations
What you will do: - Complete viability assessments and connected persons assessments, including assessments in the Court arena.
- Support and supervise connected person carers, ensuring that they are well supported with appropriate advice and guidance to enable them to continue to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing and learning environment for children/young people who they are looking after.
- Opportunities to participate delivering connected person training, such as Skills to Care.
- Support the recruitment officers by occasionally taking part in actively recruiting foster carers.
