Senior Occupational Therapist (TIOT)

Torfaen Adults and Communities is seeking to recruit a full time, Senior Occupational Therapist, at the Torfaen Integrated Occupational Therapy (TIOT) team, with the appointed therapist giving priority to referrals that identify rehabilitation and admission prevention at Ty Glas Y Dorlan.

Ty Glas Y Dorlan is the wellbeing hub at the centre of Torfaen's respite and Reablement\/Enablement offer. It moves away from a bed based care model to a unique community hub that provides a mix of short stay accommodation with support, enabling a person-centred recovery and reablement plan of intervention which can flex up and down. It can provide step up from the community to avoid hospital admission and step down from hospital to provide a safe space to recover. It offers respite care to give carers a break in an environment that is more like a holiday than has previously been the case. It is age inclusive and will be for all adults.

TIOT takes a multi-disciplinary approach, working together with partner agencies to meet the social care needs of children and adults, their families, and carers within Torfaen. Our aim is to work proactively with individuals, to promote choice, independence, control, positive risk taking and meaningful social inclusion to achieve positive outcomes in the areas that matter most to them.

The successful candidate will have an essential role in identifying manual handling needs, making safe equipment and adaptation prescriptions and recommendations, and working alongside both paid and unpaid carers to ensure safety is maximised and individual choices and aims are central, enabling fulfilled lives.

This is an exciting opportunity for an occupational therapist to work in this unique structure, being based within a team of peer, supportive occupational therapist (OT's) and being the identified link to Ty Glas Y Dorlan wellbeing rehabilitation hub.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, proactive, creative and forward-thinking professional, with a genuine commitment to working towards achieving the best outcomes for individuals. They will be flexible, motivated and committed to put the individual's strengths, voice, choice and control at the centre of any interventions and be able to work effectively as part of a team or working on own initiative.

Applicants will be a qualified and registered OT with a real desire to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.

You will be responsible for providing supervision and support to Reablement Practitioners (RP's) based at Ty Glas Y Dorlan and more junior staff within TIOT. They will also offer clinical placements for OT students.

You will have or be expected to work towards a sound and demonstratable working knowledge of relevant legislation e.g Local Government and Housing Act, MH legislation, Social Services and Wellbeing Act Wales, Mental Capacity Act
