Do you want to work to make a positive difference to the lives of Adults with Disabilities?
We are passionate about working together to make a positive difference to the lives of adults with physical, learning disabilities and autism by staying in our respite service for short breaks. We want the people staying in our respite service to 'have the best stay possible' by providing them with a supportive and homely environment that is centred on their individual needs.
This is achieved by creating a happy and supportive environment which provides a safe, caring and learning experience which offers opportunities for the development of personal, living and social skills so that people with disabilities have the best quality of life possible.
We are looking to build a team of staff who can provide regular cover for daytime, night time shifts, overnight sleep ins and waking nights that will seamlessly feel part of the core team
What you will do:
- Support Adults with Disabilities to have their voice heard and support them whilst staying in respite and provide support that meets their needs - Plan and implement activities with the person during their stay that they will enjoy and will also help them to develop skills such as cooking skills, shopping skills, going to the pub or a café, getting creative with crafts, swimming - Support people staying in the respite service to be active members in the community - Build positive relationships with family, friends and those who stay in respite to show that we care about what we do - To work and communicate as part of a team - Adapt your support style and develop skills to support the people who stay at the respite service
You will be expected to: - Ensure that you promote, and value 'Active Support', 'Positive Behaviour Support' and the 'Reduction of Restrictive Practices' approaches as a central method of enabling people to engage more in their daily lives; building strong relationships with those surrounding them, developing independent living skills and becoming active members within their communities through delivering high quality care. - Create a homely, warm, kind, friendly, environment ensuring that all your actions are transparent and open for discussion in professional supervision in accordance with the Codes of Professional Practice for Social Care. - Develop trusted professional relationships with families, friends and those staying in respite to help them feel safe, listened to and their support needs being met - Develop own skills to meet the support needs of all of those who stay in the respite service - To work alongside the core team and feel part of the team - Adapt the pace of support at different times of the day and on occasion think on your feet to ensure support needs are being met - Support people with manual handling needs and administer medication following protocols
What we are looking for from you: - To have the right values supporting Adults with Disabilities - Ability to achieve QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care Adults in order to register with Social Care Wales as a Residential Support Worker. - Motivation to implement interesting activities and developing skills - Undertake training to gain skills to be able to effectively support all people with disabilities e.g. Makaton, Positive Behaviour Support, Active Support, Person Centred Thinking, Level 2 health related training skills - An ability to be creative and open minded with support approaches for adults to reach their potential - Have a friendly, trustworthy, and supportive nature with a positive outlook on life and be able to build positive and constructive relationships with families, friends and those staying in respite - Have resilience, we all have our good days and bad days, you will need the ability to remain calm and supportive - Ability to accurately record information and recognise and report any areas of concern
