Child's profile: J is 16 years and 10 months, has cerebral Palsy and is non- verbal. He is reliant on Mum and Dad to support with all transfers, basic and personal care. He loves being read to, watching Youtube, has his remote that he likes to hold and click the buttons and he likes his dinosaurs which make a noise. J can be repetitive at times and will let you know If he wants something through gestures, pointing and some Makaton.
He can be stubborn at times but has a wicked and great sense of humour.
All his food needs to be purified.
He will also make it known if he doesn't like the food, he will refuse open his mouth and say 'no'.
About you: Desired: You will have the experience of providing support for children and young people with additional needs.
Some experience of challenging behaviour desired. This is not a regular occurrence however once he gets comfortable with someone, he has the potential to show his frustration.
If relevant training needs are identified, this will be addressed and sourced by the family who you are employed by.
Manual handling and moving and handling training is essential due to J needing 2:1 support with all transfers.
Applicants must be enthusiastic, caring and passionate about making a difference to children and young people's lives.
The support will be set days after school in term time, however holidays would be more beneficial to us and J if the support consisted of 2 days of 5.5 hours at 2:1 support.
We can be flexible in holiday time. Must be happy to work in a home with dogs.
Essential: Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
Full UK driving licence and have access to your own vehicle.
All applicants who are employed by families must undertake a
new enhanced DBS check which will be funded and carried out by the Powys County Council DBS Team.
About the role: This support will include supporting J after school, including getting off the school bus and transferring into the family home.
Support with his evening routine, such as preparing and having his tea, changing clothes (if needed), washing and settling in for the evening, including all personal care.
Support at the weekends will sometimes include taking Jacob out into the community to enable the opportunity for Jacob to socialise and build confidence in new environments. To encourage opportunities to get out of the house, go for walks in his chair and to promote life skills such as shopping and meeting new people.
All support will include personal care.
This position will be under a direct payment arrangement, and your employer will be the family (you would not be employed by Powys County Council directly).
