Come and join our team An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated DoLS team as a Mental Capacity Advanced Assessor. You will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the rights of adults who may lack capacity, ensuring compliance with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) framework.
As an Advanced Assessor, you will undertake complex mental capacity assessments and Best Interest assessments, provide expert advice, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our service. You will work closely with individuals, families, care providers, and other professionals to ensure person-centred, lawful, and high-quality practice.
Key Responsibilities- Complete Mental Capacity and Best Interests Assessments under the MCA 2005 and DoLS framework.
- Where necessary prepare and submit Community DoLS applications to the Court of Protection.
- Liaise with individuals, families, representatives, care providers, and professionals to gather information and ensure person-centred practice.
- Ensure recommendations and conditions from DoLS assessments are followed up appropriately.
- Advise professionals, partner agencies, and family members about the MCA and DoLS procedure.
- Identify and refer for Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCAs) or Rule 1.2 Representatives as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of assessments and decisions.
- Provide expert advice and support to internal teams and external stakeholders on DoLS and MCA matters.
- Participate in relevant training activities and contribute to multi-agency team working.
- Act as a link worker, advising other professionals in areas of expertise.
- Provide learning opportunities for qualified professionals undertaking training under the direction of the team manager.
- Contribute to policy development, best practice guidance, and quality assurance within the team.
About You- Qualified professional with relevant registration.
- Substantial experience in mental capacity and best interests assessments.
- In-depth knowledge of the MCA 2005, DoLS, and associated Code of Practice.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and promoting the rights of vulnerable adults.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Willingness to undertake further training and development.

**Experienced Practitioner Progression Framework
The 'Framework' recognises Social Workers who have completed their consolidation programme, and who routinely undertake complex social work practice. It also recognises those Social Workers who undertake relevant post qualifying, CPD programmes and research, which could include being a Practice Educator who has 2nd and 3rd year Students, or an AMHP licenced and practicing within the Authority.
