Elective Home Education Officer - Education Welfare Service

The postholder will be part of first point of contact for schools and parents\/ carers to discuss Elective Home Education and will be responsible for providing advice and guidance to parents regarding provision of a suitable, full-time and efficient education, ensuring children and young people are receiving a suitable education. The post will also support the planning for children and young people where they have chosen to return to school following being home educated. The post holder will be expected to take the appropriate legal action if a child is not in receipt of a suitable education, including issuing a school attendance order (SAO) or applying for an Education Supervision Order (ESO) where necessary
The postholder will work in close liaison with schools, support services and other agencies, to plan for pupils and ensure all Torfaen pupils irrespective of their individual backgrounds, circumstances or difficulties can derive the maximum benefit from their learning.
