Come and join our team Are you passionate about safeguarding the rights of vulnerable adults? We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented DoLS Coordinator to join our Adult and Corporate Safeguarding Team. This pivotal role ensures the Local Authority effectively discharges its functions as a Supervisory Body under the Mental Capacity Act (2005) and DoLS legislation.
As the DoLS Coordinator, you will manage a set of complex statutory procedures, provide high-level support to the DoLS Team Manager and Quality Assurance Officer, and help ensure our processes are robust, timely, and legally compliant.
Key Responsibilities- Screen and evaluate Urgent, Standard, Further, and Review applications received via the team inbox or DoLS electronic portal.
- Provide initial responses to all DoLS enquiries (email/telephone), ensuring queries are answered or signposted appropriately.
- Conduct pre-allocation checks with Managing Authorities, identifying areas for consideration.
- Allocate assessments to Best Interests/Mental Capacity and Mental Health Assessors (s12 approved doctors) in a timely manner.
- Track, chase, and collate completed assessments, ensuring prompt allocation to the Quality Assurance Officer.
- Maintain regular contact with Managing Authorities and appointed assessors to ensure records are accurate and statutory timescales are met.
- Appoint additional resources (e.g., Independent Mental Capacity Advocates, Translators) as needed.
- Record and collate accurate DoLS activity data and produce regular performance reports for Senior Management, including annual returns to Welsh Government and Care Inspectorate Wales.
- Coordinate the Court of Protection case list, ensuring timely sharing of information and documentation for court proceedings.
- Monitor DoLS expenditure relating to commissioned services.
- Develop and enhance systems and processes to improve current and future DoLS functions.
About You- Experience in business support or administration within health/social care or statutory services.
- Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005), DoLS legislation, and safeguarding principles.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and agencies.
- IT literate, with experience using spreadsheets and electronic case management systems.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and best practice in safeguarding.
