Learn more about Helen Dobson

Helen Dobson

Social Worker

Helen was a supply teacher in primary schools for thirty years, but one day she decided that she wanted to do more to make a difference, so she did her MSc in Social Care and became a Social Worker.

Question 1: What made you want to retrain as a Social Worker?

“I always had this feeling that I wanted to do something more, and give a bit more back to the community. I was 48 when I started my Social Care Masters, but it felt right. Everything seems to have fallen perfectly into place now, and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Question 2: Tell us a bit more about the challenges in your role.

“Obviously, it can be a difficult job, and it’s not your usual 9-5, but the rewards outweigh everything. You’re making a real difference to people’s lives every single day, and I’m so thankful to be able to do that.”

Question 3: Would you recommend a career in care?

“Yes – if you’re really passionate about making a difference then it’s the best career. I’m constantly learning new things and I’m busier than ever, but I really do love it.”
