Cardiff Council Adult Services is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated senior Social Worker to join our Community Duty Team and Contact & Assessment Team
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner looking to develop their career within a fast-paced and supportive service. Working across both the Community Duty Team, and Contact & Assessment Team
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, strengths-based social work interventions to adults and carers across Cardiff.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 2-3 years' post-qualifying experience in social work practice, together with a strong understanding of adult social care legislation, safeguarding, risk management and person-centred practice.

The Contact & Assessment Service and Community Duty Team provide a critical front-door function for Adult Services. The teams work with adults, carers and families to assess needs, respond to changing circumstances, manage risk, undertake safeguarding enquiries and promote independence and wellbeing through proportionate and timely interventions.
As a senior Social Worker, you will work across both service areas, supporting individuals at the point of first contact as well as those already receiving care and support whose circumstances require review, reassessment or urgent intervention.
About the job
The role offers a varied and rewarding workload, including:
- Undertaking complex Care and Support Assessments and reviews.
- Responding to referrals and requests for support from adults, carers and partner agencies.
- Managing a complex caseload involving safeguarding, risk and multi-agency working.
- Providing professional advice, guidance and support within the service.
- Working with individuals, carers and families to identify strengths, needs and personal outcomes.
- Undertaking Mental Capacity Assessments and contributing to Best Interest decision-making processes where appropriate.
- Developing outcome-focused Care and Support Plans that promote independence and wellbeing.
- Responding to urgent and unplanned situations within the Community Duty Team.
- Supporting individuals already in receipt of care and support where circumstances have changed or risks have increased.
- Building effective relationships with health colleagues, housing, care providers, third-sector organisations and community resources.
- Supporting less experienced staff and contributing to the development of good practice across the service.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with legislative and procedural requirements.
What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for a qualified, experienced Social Worker who is committed to delivering excellent outcomes for adults and carers.
You will have:
- A recognised Social Work qualification.
- Registration with Social Care Wales.
- A minimum of 2-3 years' post-qualifying experience within Adult Social Care or a related statutory setting.
- Experience of undertaking complex assessments and care planning.
- Experience of safeguarding adults and managing risk.
- Sound knowledge of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and associated legislation.
- Excellent communication, analytical and decision-making skills.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- A commitment to strengths-based, outcome-focused and person-centred practice.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

Additional information
With effect from the 1st April 2021 this post attracts a market supplement of £3000 per annum full time equivalent. This payment is reviewed on a 12 monthly basis.
This post has a requirement for registration with Social Care Wales.
This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check.
The position is permanent for 37 hours per week and is suitable for post share.
