Neath Port Talbot Youth Justice & Early Intervention Service is looking for a motivated, resilient and child-focused Prevention Worker to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with children, young people and families facing a range of complex needs, including offending behaviour, trauma, exploitation, emotional wellbeing challenges and substance misuse concerns.
As part of a highly supportive multi-agency team, you will deliver practical interventions, provide positive role modelling, and help children develop the skills, confidence and resilience needed to make lasting changes in their lives.
About the Role
No two days are the same. You will:
- Deliver one-to-one and group interventions with children and young people.
- Support engagement with education, training, employment and positive activities.
- Work alongside families to strengthen relationships and improve outcomes.
- Deliver targeted work around emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, victim awareness and substance use.
- Help children understand risk, make safer choices and reduce harmful behaviours.
- Work collaboratively with schools, social care, health services, police and community partners.
- Support children through key life transitions, including community and custody-based interventions.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking someone who can build positive relationships with children who may be reluctant to engage and who can see beyond behaviours to understand underlying needs.
You will ideally have experience of working with children, young people or families and be confident supporting individuals with complex needs, including trauma, vulnerability, exploitation and substance use. Experience in youth work, youth justice, education, social care, counselling, health or related fields would be advantageous. [
Most importantly, you will be:
- Passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people.
- Skilled at building trust and motivating change.
- Calm, resilient and able to work in challenging situations.
- Committed to trauma-informed, strengths-based and Child First practice.
- A strong team player with excellent communication skills.
