We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable Financial Inclusion Officer to join the Welfare Rights and Financial Inclusion Team within People and Community Services. This is an opportunity to make a real difference by helping people to understand their options, maximise household income, improve money management, issue emergency provisions and access the right support at the right time. The post holder will work closely with welfare rights advisers, social services teams, and a range of statutory, third sector and community partners to provide practical financial inclusion advice and support to individuals. The role includes referral-based casework, benefit checks, basic form-filling support, personal budgeting guidance, outreach activity, and contribution to wider financial inclusion initiatives.
You will have strong knowledge and understanding of welfare benefits, welfare reform, money management and services that support people with debt. You will be confident working with people from a range of backgrounds and with varying needs, and able to communicate complex information clearly, accurately and sensitively. You will be expected to undertake advice and support in various formats, such as telephone; written; e-mail and face to face; attending appointments / home visits. You will be expected to create and deliver training courses as part of the wider team’s extensive training programme. Attending financial inclusion meetings, forums and networking with other services are a key part of this role.

The salary for the position is Grade 7 £32,061 - £35,412 per annum.
- Provide advice and guidance on financial inclusion matters to individuals and groups.
- Receive referrals and manage financial inclusion cases, including benefit checks and personal budgeting support.
- Attend outreach activities to offer financial inclusion support and advice to citizens.
- Stay updated on best practices and identify appropriate sources of financial and material support for residents.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners, such as the Money Advice Service and Citizens Advice.
- Accurately record performance monitoring information and outcomes in a timely manner.
- Advise Team Leaders and Managers on emerging issues that may impact financial inclusion support.
- Attend relevant meetings, training sessions, and conferences as directed by the Team Leader.
- Ensure compliance with data protection protocols and legislation regarding personal data handling.
- Extensive knowledge of welfare benefits, welfare reform, and debt support services.
- Working knowledge of money management and household income maximization strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications.
- Experience in supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds with varying needs.
- Experience in providing financial inclusion support to individuals and groups.
- Ability to build personal capacity and support individuals in determining their own actions.
- Knowledge of National Occupational Standards for Community Development is desirable.
- Familiarity with local or national welfare benefits and financial inclusion software applications is an asset.
- Valid certification and/or registration/CPD in relevant fields.
- A current driving license is required.
