Help shape exceptional early years practice where every child is safe, included and able to thrive.
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a newly created senior specialist role working across our maintained early years provision in Bridgend. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to lead safeguarding, inclusion and Additional Learning Needs (ALN) practice across our settings.
This is a rare opportunity to help establish and shape a new role – developing strong systems, building workforce confidence and helping create a model of excellent early years practice.
As our Early Years Additional Learning Needs and Safeguarding Lead, you will act as the Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP) and Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator for the local authority’s maintained early years provision, providing statutory oversight, professional leadership and quality assurance across all settings in the service.
This role would suit a confident and compassionate professional who combines sound judgement, strong safeguarding expertise and a commitment to inclusive practice, together with the ability to support and challenge others to deliver the highest standards.
If you are passionate about safeguarding, inclusion and improving outcomes for young children, and are motivated by the opportunity to shape this new role, then we would love to hear from you.
An informal conversation with Stephanie Thomas, Early Years and Childcare Manager, is warmly encouraged. Please email stephanie.thomas@bridgend.gov.uk to arrange a suitable time.
This is a term-time role, with an additional five days to be worked flexibly across Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays, according to service need and in support of vulnerable families.
Please note that the role will require travel throughout the county borough of Bridgend so a driving licence and sole use of a car during working hours are essential requirements.
The ability to greet customers through the medium of Welsh is a requirement for this post.
Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.
An Enhanced with Childrens Barred list criminal records check by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) is a requirement for this post.
Closing Date: 24 June 2026
