We have an opportunity for passionate and caring people to join our dedicated team of Support Workers in our Supported Living service in Abergavenny. We are currently recruiting for a 22 hour maternity position for 1 year. Due to the nature of the service, you will be required to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and sleep-in shifts, as part of a rolling rota with every other weekend off. Typical day shifts run between 7:00am and 10:30pm. Sleep-in shifts are in addition to your contracted hours and usually follow this pattern:
• Shift Example 1: 08:00am start → sleep-in → finish at 08:00am the next day • Shift Example 2: 15:00pm start → sleep-in → finish at 15:00pm the next day While not all shifts will be 24 hours, you must be available and willing to work this pattern as needed. What is the role?
This service is the home of 2 males with learning disabilities. You will be working with these incredible individuals to support them with maintaining their day-to-day independence, enhancing their various skills, supporting with daily activities as well as providing emotional support.

You will be expected to support with daily aspects of living, including:
Medication administration. Cooking skills and other household tasks. Some personal care needs. Accessing the community and supporting to local groups and appointments. Supporting with individuals’ hobbies and activities such as walking/hiking. Being a team player and having good communication skills. Completing relevant paperwork to a high standard. Supporting individuals to budget finances. Providing companionship to the people we support through talking about their interests and wellbeing. Having fun by encouraging the supported individuals to take part in activities that enhance their life skills and promote independence. Encouraging and supporting with cleaning and administrative duties. Being able to bring fresh ideas to the team and implement different ways of working. What skills and experience do you need?
A background of working with people who have a Learning disability, physical disability or mental ill health is desired, but not necessary as full training and support from senior staff and management is provided. More important are:
A passion to work with and enable people to live as independent a life as possible. An enthusiasm and passion for making a difference to people’s lives.
