Karen Llewellyn

Early Years Lecturer

After working as a childminder for 13 years, Karen decided to use her knowledge and understanding to progress and become a lecturer at Gower College. She lectures in Childcare and Health and Social Care to help inspire the next generation of social workers, carers and child carers.

There are masses of routes that children can take in health and social care, and childcare to fulfil their dreams. It gives me massive job satisfaction to see the students grow. I think doing a degree gave me the confidence to apply for this role, and it is the best thing that I have ever done.

Q&A with Karen

Is your role flexible?

Absolutely, I worked part time for the last seven years so I could raise my family. I’ve been working full time since September 2018.

What’s the most rewarding part of your role?

I get a huge buzz from the students when they achieve their goals.

What makes a good Lecturer?

Experience. I’ve got first-hand experience working in care and early years, so they trust me.
