Childminder

After having children, Amanda was looking to move away from her career in banking. She chose childminding because of the flexibility it offered. Alongside her childminding career, Amanda studied for her degree in Early Years whilst gaining a level 5 management qualification.


Question 1: What do you get up to in a typical day?

“We do a lot outside, we love the outdoors! We make regular trips to the nature reserve, the woodlands, the beach and love spending as much time as possible outside.”

Question 2: What age do you care for?

“I’ve adapted over the years and have found my preference; from six months until they go to reception when they’re four.”

Question 3: What have you found most surprising about your job?

“I’ve been able to access a lot of education and have completed a degree that I couldn’t do when I was 18. This has allowed me to understand the psychology of children and get the best out of them.”
